Biodynamic Wine in Argentina

Biodynamic farming is a relatively new method of farming in Argentina, with the first winery in the country obtaining Demeter biodynamic certification in 2008. Since then, along with the increase in sustainable practices and organic production, the number of Argentine wineries that have become involved in biodynamic farming has grown quite considerably, experiencing over 60% growth in the last five years (2018 – 2023).

There are currently 13 wineries in Argentina certified by Demeter, covering a total of approximately 500 hectares of biodynamic vineyards located at different altitudes and climates, right from Salta in the very north of Argentina to Patagonia in the very south, offering of a wide variety of styles of biodynamic wine.

There are currently 29 wine producing countries in the world with biodynamic certification, with the three largest biodynamic producers being France with over 12,500 hectares, Italy with over 2600 hectares, followed very closely by Spain with over 2500 hectares.
